How to Write a Good Prompt for Print-Ready Images
More and more designers and webshop owners are using AI to create images for printing on clothing, mugs, and other products. To generate an image that is not only visually appealing but also technically suitable for printing, it is important to use the right prompt.
Here, we explain what makes a good prompt and how to ensure your design meets the correct print requirements.
Always Start with the Correct Size
Before generating an image, it’s important to know the size of the print area. You can find these dimensions for each product on our website.
In this example, we use a print area of:
30 × 40 cm at 300 DPI
This means the image must have enough pixels to be printed sharply. At 300 DPI, this results in a high-resolution image suitable for professional printing.
👉 Tip: Always include the size and resolution clearly in your prompt.
What Makes a Good Prompt?
A good prompt is clear, specific, and complete. The better you describe what you want, the better the generated image will match your expectations and printing requirements.
Consider including the following elements:
1. Subject
Describe what should appear in the image. Be specific.
For example: an illustration, a character, an object, or a text-based design.
2. Style
Specify the visual style you want, such as:
- Minimalist
- Cartoon / illustrative
- Realistic
- Vintage
- Streetwear style
3. Colors
Indicate which colors should be used and whether the background should be transparent or solid.
For garment printing, a transparent background is often preferred.
4. Technical Requirements (Very Important)
Always include technical specifications in your prompt, such as:
- Size: 30 × 40 cm
- Resolution: 300 DPI
- High sharpness, suitable for printing
- No blurry edges or compression
Always Check Your File
Even with a well-written prompt, it’s important to check your file afterwards:
- Does the size match the print area on the website?
- Is the resolution high enough (300 DPI)?
- Are lines and details sharp?
This helps prevent disappointment in the final print result.
