Creating and Saving a Template in Canva

Many people use Canva as a design tool, which is very convenient. However, it’s important to use the correct settings from the start. This ensures that your file is delivered in the right format and that your design can be printed perfectly.

Print Areas per Product

When creating a design, it’s important to take the product’s print area into account. The print area defines where your design can be placed and the maximum printable dimensions.

Each product has a different print area. For example, the front and back of a T-shirt or the front of a hoodie differ from items like tote bags, kids’ products, neck labels, or mugs.

👉 You can always find the correct print dimensions in the product specifications on our website.

Step 1: Create a New Design in Canva

  • Open Canva and click “Create a design”
  • Select “Custom size” at the bottom
  • By default, the unit is set to px (pixels) — change this to cm (centimeters)
  • Enter the desired dimensions (see product specifications)
  • Click “Create new design”

You now have a template with the correct maximum print area and can start designing right away.

Step 2: Save Your Design in the Right Quality

  • Give your file a clear name (e.g. Hoodie_Logo_Front.png)

When your design is finished:

  • Click “Share” in the top right corner, then select “Download”
  • Choose PNG as the file format (recommended)

Why PNG?

  • Highest quality
  • Supports transparent backgrounds (enable this option if needed)
  • Move the quality/size slider fully to the right to maximize the number of pixels

(Note: pixels are not the same as DPI, but more pixels result in a sharper image)

  • Click Download — your file will now be saved in the correct quality

👉 Tip: Enable “Save download settings” so you don’t need to adjust everything again for future designs.

Result

By creating and saving your file this way in Canva, you ensure your design is in the correct format and the highest possible quality.

This results in a sharp, professional print on your clothing or product.
